UT Progression Guide

Items are numbered in order of progression. The higher a number, the later relative stage in the game you would farm for those items. Those with a [†] are considered "swapouts", which can be used at any point in the game since they serve a good, nicher purpose.

Staves

Asteroid Staff is a great starter weapon, but is held back by its simplicity. Its DPS excels for the stage of the game, but it lacks versatility.'[1]

Emberheart Staff is an amazing all around staff that is mainly used for its pierce capabilities when its DPS is outclassed by other staves later on.[2†]

Anubis Staff has good range and damage, but nothing special stands out about it other than increased range.[3]

Staff of Unholy Sacrifice has amazing clearing capabilities, and should not be exalted depending on the situation. The ability to shoot backwards can be useful when your speed is low and you have aggro, making the boss follow you closer than expected.[4†]

Voided Staff is another great clearing staff, but it's shotgun pattern may be discouraging for unexperienced players to use it.[4†]

Onyx Staff is powerful because of it's lock on capabilities, vertical reach, and pierce. It also has amazing DPS.[5]

Final Destination is currently the highest DPS staff in the game, dealing massive amounts of damage through a huge barrage of projectiles. However, Final Destination doesn't have any pierce or lock on capabilities.[6]

Skulls

Frostspark Skull is strong because it instantly deals damage to the targeted entity. It also provides a large amount of healing.[1]

Chronos Heart is key in any necromancer's arsenal, as it provides instant healing with no drawbacks.[2†]

Dilapidated Skull is a good choice for those who want a mix between healing and damage.[2]

Empyrean Epitome is the best "skull" in the game, as it provides a massive amount of healing and decent damage as well.[3]

Scriptures

Scripture of Lost Treasure is okay at best, although it competes with T8 and T9 scriptures.[1]

Magma Infused Scripture provides high damage at the cost of having larger intervals and cooldown. This makes scriptures less forgiving as you have to wait longer to switch to a skull.[2]

Spring Seasoned Scripture provides slightly less DPS than the Magma Infused Scripture, but it is much more versatile in skull usage, as well as scripture placement.[3]

Hoods

Exoskeleton Hood provides vitality and attack, making it a great all around hood for Necromancer. [1]

Hood of the Cultist is focused more on survivability, giving evasion and attack. Evasion can be less reliable, so generally this hood is not recommended for builds other than evasion. [2†]

Helmet of the Twilight Mage is currently the best hood in the game, providing a significant amount of attack and crit chance. It also provides speed, which is essential to robe classes as they are usually slow. [3]

Robes

Lizardskin Spellcoat is a great robe to use for survivability purposes, granting enough speed to better dodge shots. [1†]

Omnipotent Robe can be strong when paired with its counterpart, but it is geared towards crit and evasion builds. [1]

Robe of Chronos is incredibly strong, granting the most attack out of any armour piece. However, it lacks defense, making it a weaker choice for survivability. [2]

Leggings

Omnipotent Leggings are stronger when paired with its counterpart, and is great if you don't have the Leggings of Chronos. [1]

Leggings of Chronos provide high attack stats and a decent amount of survivability, making it the best all around choice for leggings. [2]

Boots

Flora Boots are a good set of starter boots, as they cover the survivability that a mage class lacks in the beginning. [1]

Crystal Boots are strong because they provide the speed that a mage lacks. They also give a good amount of attack. [2]

Soulless Shoes provide good survivability stats, making them essential as a swapout during dance phases. [3†]

Onyx Boots do not provide any defense, but make up for it by providing high speed and damage stats, with some health. [4]
