UT Progression Guide
Items are numbered in order of progression. The higher a number, the later relative stage in the game you would farm for those items. Those with a [†] are considered "swapouts", which are meant to only be used when needed and not as your main ability.
Sceptres
For early game, the Sceptre of Thorns is an easy to obtain sceptre that has comparable DPS to T9 and T10 sceptres. [1]
The Corvus Sceptre is a strong sceptre to continue with, being the next step when farming centre. This has a higher cooldown but also a higher amount of damage compared to tiered sceptres. [2]
Ideally, your next sceptre would be the Sceptre of Gloom, for high single target damage in bosses. [3]
Luminous Flame is a gimmicky but powerful sceptre. Its projectiles fall from above like the Heralds', instead of shooting a straight beam like your usual sceptre. [3]
The Endoskeleton Sceptre is strong when it comes to clearing, but generally it isn't the greatest against bosses. [3†]
Calamity is currently the third best DPS sceptre in the game, with high damage and piercing. However, it trades off range to have such valuable traits. [4]
Dusk Weaver is a solid choice for both dps and range supporting a "hit and run" playstyle with its 2.8s/2.5s attack cooldown. This sceptre may struggle with hitting enemies which move around.[4†]
The voidbound upgrade of sceptre of gloom, the Maelstorm is the second highest DPS sceptre in the game with a 60 base dps if you can keep getting the tornado stacks up on the enemy.[4]
Requiem is currently the best sceptre having the best DPS and having nice QOL features to help with certain bosses, mainly Seraphim and True Seraph.[5]
Orbs
Your first orb the Overgrown orb has an okay ish range and decent damage on top of the 2s stun. But it has a rather long cooldown. If you are looking for damage instead of a stun you should aim for a tiered orb. [1†]
Your second orb, the orb of Torment is good for clearing and rushing due to its permanent +20 speed when EX. It have wide range and good damage. This orb is an excellent choice for high burst damage when using dislocate and endless horizons on the orb skill tree due to it sharing the lowest cooldown. However, if you are not using this skill tree the orb falls short in burst damage. [2]
The Orb of Conflict deals high damage, but may be risky for a robe class with little defense. [3]
The Slow Touch Orb has great buff capabilities that are necessary for an Arcanist to survive easily in later game. This orb trades damage for a high amount of temporary defense. [3†]
Herald's Essence is the highest damaging orb in the game, but it is difficult to hit consistently especially when a boss is quickly moving. This orb synergizes extremely well with the recast node. [4]
The Event Horizon has a decent damage passive and very nice QOL with the vitality, speed and crit chance it gives on ability use. This orb alongside the orb of torment are great choices when using dislocate and endless horizons due to them both sharing the lowest cooldown. [4]
Jewels
Frozen Jewel is the first jewel you should go for, as it provides high DPS and scales with your sceptre thanks to added stats it provides. [1]
The Jewel of the Nile has straight DPS and is direct upgrade. [2]
Wild Wisps is the best jewel for QOL as it can stun enemies for a very long time with alright damage [2†]
Souls of the Cult is an incredibly useful ability, as it automatically fires at the nearest enemy and has great single target DPS. [3]
Hoods
Hood of Stealth gives some much needed speed to early game mages. It also comes with good amount of ehp in stats and the ability to turn invisible. [1]
Exoskeleton Hood provides vitality and attack, making it a great all around hood for Arcanist. [2]
Hood of the Cultist is focused more on survivability, giving evasion and vitality. Evasion can be less reliable, so generally this hood is not recommended for builds other than evasion. [2†]
Archon's Glare provides a significant amount of attack and crit chance. It also provides speed, which is essential to robe classes as they are usually slow. [3]
Angelic Mandorla is the best helmet in the game, however for robe classes the only difference between it and Archon's Glare is EHP. The damage should be the same.[4]
Robes
Lizardskin Spellcoat is a great robe to use for survivability purposes, granting enough speed to better dodge shots. [1†]
Omnipotent Robe can be extremely strong when paired with its counterpart Omnipotent Leggings, but it is more geared towards crit and evasion builds. [2]
Warden's Garment is the Royal-damage oriented counterpart to Lizardskin. Granting lower ehp but more damage, along with an ability akin to the Wardens' that shoots cogs which bounces off of walls. [2]
Robe of Chronos is incredibly strong, granting the most attack out of any armour piece. This robe also has a high amount of health which makes it a decent option for EHP. This robe can also be paired with the spiritbloom gown to utilize both the gowns ability damage passive and Robe of Chronos' superior offense stats to min-max damage. [3]
Spiritbloom Gown is usually considered the better robe for arcanist due to the 45% ability damage syngerizing with orb and jewels high base damage. This robe possess a high amount of vitality, high amount of critchance and a high amount speed making it an excellent choice for endgame content.[3]
Leggings
Frost leggings are probably going to be your first UT leggings and due to its speed and vitality you could use it as a swap out for healing/mobility [1†]
Omnipotent Leggings are stronger when paired with its counterpart Omnipotent Robe, and is great when balancing critchance and attack to avoid diminishing returns. Though the Omnipotent Leggings may lack health and have less defense compared to its rival Leggings of Chronos it makes up for it with a high amount of evasion.[2]
Leggings of Chronos provide high attack stats and a decent amount of survivability through health and superior defense than its counterpart Omnipotent Leggings thus making it the best all around choice for leggings. [2]
Shadow Silk provides the most EHP out of all leggings and you should use it if you are learning bosses and want more ehp than Chronos leggings and Omnipotent Leggings.[3†]
Boots
Flora Boots are a good set of starter boots, as they cover the survivability that a mage class lacks in the beginning. [1]
Star Strikers is a nice mix of survivability and damage and isn't too hard to obtain. [2]
Crystal Boots are strong because they provide the speed that a mage lacks. They also give a good amount of attack. [3]
Soulless Shoes provide good survivability stats, making them essential as a swapout during survival phases. [3†]
Rueforge does not provide any defense, but makes up for it by providing high speed and damage stats, with some health. [4]
